Really Screwed Up
writinggopher: "I am 20 years old, a
junior in college with a heavy course load, and am in the middle of med
adjustments, which have been going on since October. I was diagnosed
with depression when I was 12, and have been on at least 7 different
antidepressants, two sleep aids, and now we're adding mood stabilizers
to the mix. It wasn't until last year when I hit rock bottom and went
into my pdoc's office in the middle of an episode that they figured out
it was bipolar. It's hard enough with this new diagnosis, but being a
college student makes it much more difficult. My newest challenge is
deciding whether to tell my professors, which has to be done through the
academic assistance office. This doesn't sound like that big a deal, but
to me it is an admission of defeat. Any ideas?"
